Leeds United held major Tyler Adams concerns prior to agreeing £23m exit -The Athletic

Leeds United were fully aware that Tyler Adams might struggle to pass a medical as he completed his PS23million move to Bournemouth in the summer, having seen Chelsea pull the plug on a deal initially.

Injury dilemmas have been rife at Elland Road for some time, and it could be argued that a major contributor to Leeds' decline from April to May in the Premier League last season was Tyler Adams' hamstring setback.

The USMNT captain was ruled out for the season and the midfield unravelled after that, and now the 24-year-old moved elsewhere and the mood has totally changed on Adams' Leeds 'legacy'.

He finally made his debut for the Cherries in the EFL Cup last week in a home clash against Stoke City, coming off the bench in a routine 2-0 win.

Did Leeds know this could be an issue? The Athletic's Phil Hay has now shared that Leeds were fully aware that this could have been the case with Adams heading into an injury comeback.

A move to Chelsea was initially agreed for the US man, before they pulled the plug after concerns over this injury.

Hay wrote this about Leeds' lingering worries on Adams:

"It figured that Adams could be prone to a setback because, at the points where Chelsea and Bournemouth came calling for him in the window, Leeds were never certain about his chances of successfully passing a medical after so long out.

"Chelsea weren't convinced but Bournemouth pushed the signing through, committing to a deal from which Leeds stood to receive PS23million ($27.8m) before add-ons. And so Adams found a way out."

Leeds United v QPR predictions?

It does say a lot that he's back on the treatment table, but that was surely going to happen if he was rushed back too quickly.

There's no denying that Adams is a Premier League quality player, but we have done well to get this amount of money for someone who is going to miss half a season from the off.

With Ethan Ampadu in the side right now, we are actually in a better position having sold Adams for so much, especially with his injuries flaring up now.
