'For me': Andoni Iraola names which Chelsea player was the 'difference' in Bournemouth’s 1-0 defeat
Source:The Chelsea

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola had high praise for one Chelsea star after his side's 1-0 loss to the Blues at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday night.

Bournemouth looked like they were going to secure at least a point against Chelsea, with neither team having scored by the 80th minute.

However, six minutes later, substitutes Jadon Sancho and Christopher Nkunku combined, with the former playing a ball into the latter before he converted past Mark Travers.

Chelsea fans were impressed with Sancho's debut, but Iraola had praise for another Blues player after the game.

His display did not go under the radar, with Iraola claiming that the goalkeeper was the difference between the two sides on the night.

Speaking to the media after the match, the Bournemouth boss said: "For me, the keeper was the difference today, especially with that save from Ryan Christie.

"And when you play against these keepers, forwards and defenders, you have to be very good, clinical and don't make mistakes to get a reward. We had a lot today but not enough."

The clean sheet that Sanchez managed to keep was his first of the season and one that he had to really fight for.

Chelsea fortunate in Bournemouth win On another day, Chelsea could have easily lost that encounter with Bournemouth. The Cherries hit the woodwork early in the first half before their penalty miss.

Enzo Maresca's side got the victory at a place they drew at last season, though, and that is the most important thing.

Chelsea have another tough away game in the Premier League next when they travel to the London Stadium to take on West Ham United.

The Hammers beat their London rivals there during the 2023/24 campaign, so Chelsea may need a bit of fortune again.

But as well as having fortune in their win against Bournemouth, they obviously had a lot of quality, too, thanks to the likes of Nkunku and Sancho.

If the two attackers and Sanchez can perform again next week, then it may be enough for Chelsea to return to Stamford Bridge with all three points.
