Three ways Enzo Maresca can fit Christopher Nkunku into his Chelsea XI after goal vs Bournemouth - opinion
Source:The Chelsea

Of all the quality Enzo Maresca has at his disposal at Chelsea, there is one player who will certainly feel aggrieved that he hasn't had more game time.

Christopher Nkunku had his scoring boots on in pre-season, and has continued that when starting in the Conference League so far.

However, starts in the Premier League have been harder to come by, with him being named as a substitute for every game since the opener against Manchester City against Stamford Bridge.

It seems a no brainer to start a player as good as Nkunku, however Maresca will need to think about the best possible place for him to play.

The Chelsea Chronicle have come up with three options the Italian can use to bring the former RB Leipzig man into his starting side.

How Enzo Maresca can fit Christopher Nkunku into the Chelsea side Striker

While not quite his natural position, Nkunku certainly has the ability to lead the line as a striker.

The role behind the front man seems to be locked down by Cole Palmer at the moment, with his quality making it nearly impossible to displace him from the starting side.

Outside of the England international though, the Blues don't have a better finisher than the Frenchman, and there are not many better places to have him then as close to goal as possible.

The likely loser from this situation would be Nicolas Jackson, however outside of that there is not really a senior option to play the position.

Behind the striker

Where many think Nkunku operates best is just behind a natural striker, and this is certainly still a role he can play.

Lots of Palmer's good work last season came off the right, and especially against sides who operate in a low block he can definitely make a big impact here.

This will allow Nkunku to link-up with Jackson, with the Senegal international very good at getting the best out of the players around him.

Playing slightly deeper than the Number 9 will allow the PS52m man to not be just limited to his finishing, and show off some of the dribbling skills he is known for.

Left wing

While not his best role, Nkunku can make an impact for the Blues on either wing, with the left seeming his best of the two.

There is plenty of competition for this position. The likes of Jadon Sancho, Mykhailo Mudryk and Pedro Neto have all featured in this role.

Featuring on the left will allow both Palmer and Jackson to start in what they would see as their best roles, while bringing another serious goal threat into the side.

It is likely that the other wing would need to be occupied by a natural touchline winger, with Neto looking the best possible compliment due to his ability to play on both sides.
