Thomas Tuchel has insisted that Harry Kane's potential Tottenham homecoming won't be happening "for a while."

The Bayern Munich manager fought hard to sign Kane, 30, for an initial PS86million in August, although the fee could still rise to more than PS100m once all is said and done. With the England captain having spent his entire career at Tottenham, it was made clear upon his departure that the door would always be left open for a return, while Spurs also boast a first refusal option should he decide to leave Bayern and come back to the Premier League.

Kane recently returned to Tottenham's headquarters while on international duty with England, as the Three Lions squad trained at Enfield ahead of last Tuesday's emphatic 3-1 victory over Italy at Wembley - in which he scored twice - to book their place at Euro 2024. The 30-year-old was able to say his goodbyes to members of Spurs staff who he's grown close with over the last two decades.

They shouldn't expect to be working with him again soon, though, as Bayern boss Tuchel wants Kane to make Munich his new home and take his stellar career up a level. "We persuaded the captain of England to leave England and I think we can pat ourselves on the back for that for a while," the ex-Chelsea manager declared ahead of Tuesday's trip to face Galatasaray in the Champions League.

Having already scored 10 goals in his first 11 games for Bayern, the fact Tuchel doesn't believe that Kane has reached his full potential is a frightening proposition for opponents. After scoring once again during Saturday's 3-1 win against Mainz, the PS86m striker beamed: "I'm delighted it's going so well for me.

"But credit goes to the guys, who support me so well. It's a great feeling," he added, having become the quickest player in Bayern's history to notch nine Bundesliga goals.

Kane further acknowledged his teammates by saying: "Leroy Sane has started the season well. It's fun to play with him, but also with the other guys like Thomas Muller and Kingsley Coman."

"Of course, there's still along way to go, but like the manager said, there's no reason why the fans shouldn't be excited and happy with the way things are going. Hopefully they can continue.

"I have made it clear my whole career I am a Tottenham fan and I would love to see Tottenham do well. There is no other team in the Premier League I would want to win than Tottenham.

"Also, I have to be respectful to Bayern Munich and of course, the fans know I will always have a soft spot for Spurs - there is no question about that - but I have got to put all my attention on Bayern Munich and to make us as successful as possible."
