Aaron Ramsdale's Arsenal future is back in focus after it emerged the Gunners have spoken to Wolves about signing their number two goalkeeper Dan Bentley as a potential replacement.

Reports on Sunday suggested that Arsenal have made contact with Wolves over a potential deal for the 30-year-old, who actually left the Gunners' academy 15 years ago.

Bentley has only made five Premier League appearances but is well liked at Molineux. That being said, the fact Arsenal have made their move could suggest a decision has been taken on the future of Ramsdale.

He is valued at PS1.7million on Transfermarkt and any move for the 30-year-old, who has also played for Southend United, Brentford and Bristol City during his career, wouldn't break the bank.

Reports have also suggested that Wolves are targeting a move for former Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel as Bentley's replacement, with the 37-year-old, who now plays for Belgian side Anderlecht, thought to be keen on a return to England.

David Raya's loan move from Brentford was turned permanent last week and the Spanish international has firmly established himself as the club's number one goalkeeper under Arteta.

Arsenal also have Estonia international Karl Hein on their books, too, and the addition of Bentley would almost certainly facilitate Ramsdale's exit.

But one potential exit route for the England international, who Arsenal are said to rate at around PS50million, has seemingly now been blocked.

Reports earlier in the transfer window had suggested Ramsdale had agreed terms with Newcastle United, with the Magpies hoping to progress talks over a PS15million deal.

That move never materialised, though, and Newcastle's goalkeeping plans for the new season appear to now be set.

The Magpies announced the signings of Greek international goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos from Nottingham Forest and former England international goalkeeper John Ruddy on a free transfer from Birmingham City last week.

With Nick Pope, Martin Dubravka and Mark Gillespie still at the club, it means Newcastle have five goalkeepers currently on their books, and given they are prioritising moves for a new centre-back and right-winger this summer, a move for Ramsdale looks extremely unlikely to be revived this summer.

The likes of Chelsea and Wolves have also been linked with Ramsdale, too, but what seemed to be his most likely route out of North London has now been blocked and he could find himself in a state of limbo at the club when he returns from representing England at EURO 2024.
