Ian Wright has been speaking about a player Arsenal have been linked with this summer. The Gunners are looking to add depth to the wide positions having relied heavily on Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli over the last two seasons, in particular.

Mikel Arteta and Edu will be scouring the market for possible targets, but they won't have their pick of any top talent, with Arsenal needing to tread lightly around Profit and Sustainability rules having spent a large chunk of money last summer. That means the Gunners are going to need to find good value for money, and that might just suit them anyway, given Saka and Martinelli will likely remain the preferred options regardless of who is brought in, at least in the immediate future.

One player who has been linked regularly this summer is Paris Saint-Germain and Netherlands youngster Xavi Simons, who has had a big reputation throughout his young career due to coming through Barcelona's La Masia academy before being snapped up by PSG.

Simons broke through with the French giants in 2022, making seven league appearances before joining PSV and being bought back by PSG. The Parisiens then sent him straight back out on loan to RB Leipzig, where he enjoyed a superb campaign of last. The versatile winger scored eight times in 32 league appearances, winning himself a seat on the Netherlands plane to Germany for Euro 2024 this summer.

Netherlands will face England in the semi-finals on Wednesday, and analysing what the Oranje have done so far in the tournament, Ian Wright spoke about Simons' lack of production. "A player I was a little bit disappointed with from the Netherlands, Xavi Simons. I was expecting a little bit more in respects of him on the ball," said the Gunners legend on Wrighty's House.

"I know they took Steven Bergwijn off in the first half. You think to yourself, 'I could see that', but if they took Xavi Simons off I would have thought, 'yeah, I could see that as well'."

Arsenal are said to be considering a move for Simons this summer, but any decision is not likely to be based on his Euro 2024 performances alone. The attacker is still only 21 years of age, and far more senior players than him have endured disappointing tournaments. Simons, who may yet have a say on the competition, can also hold his head up high given the performances he produced in Bundesliga last season.

Simons has been asked about his future this summer, but as is often the case, he has declined to give any hint on whether he will be staying at PSG or moving on. He responded: "My future? I'm not stressed about it. At the moment, I am with the national team. We will see after the Euros."

Reported got a similar answer from PSG boss Luis Enrique when quizzing the Spaniard in May. He said: "I have a policy of not speaking about players who are not currently at the club. He is away, a player on loan."
