Report: Wolves scouted Championship star throughout 2023/24 and could now swoop, Gary O'Neil is 'fearful'
Source:Molineux News

Wolves goalkeeper Dan Bentley has emerged as a target for Arsenal - and a potential replacement for the Molineux number two has now been identified.

Bentley is wanted at the Emirates as cover for David Raya.

The 30-year-old only joined Wolves in January 2023, but the Gunners would like him to be Raya's understudy and to move Aaron Rasmdale on.

The claims have come right out of the blue, with Bentley not really a player any Wolves fans expected to be going anywhere this summer. He could still stay, of course.

Arsenal and Wolves are said to be in talks over a potential move. It's been suggested Wolves would only sell if they could fund a replacement.

And it seems the club may well have identified one.

MORE WOLVES STORIES

Apparently, Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson is someone the club have an interest in.

The outlet claims that Gary O'Neil has been left 'fearful' he may be short of goalkeeping options heading into 2023/24, amid the interest from Arsenal in Bentley.

Wolves are currently mulling over whether to make a move.

England U21 international Patterson signed a new deal with Sunderland last September, putting the Black Cats in a decent position for any negotiations.

Wolves are actually said to have scouted Patterson over the course of last season, and the club are now weighing up whether to follow that up with a bid.

Give Me Sport add at the bottom of their report that O'Neil is 'keen to convince Bentley to stay'.

Patterson might be pricey Sunderland are said to be 'desperate' to keep hold of Patterson, who climbed the club's academy ranks to become their number one.

The 24-year-old has made 123 appearances for the club, and is viewed as one of the best goalkeepers outside the Premier League.

Quite possibly, Wolves will not be able to sign him on the cheap. Especially since he signed a new deal that keeps him at the Stadium of Light until the summer of 2028.

Patterson would likely want to be a number one and it's possible Wanderers might not be able to offer him that role just at the moment.

Now if Jose Sa was to leave the club, and it was recently claimed Jorge Mendes was sounding out interest from other clubs, then Patterson would perhaps be more intrigued.
