Rangers were tracking former Arsenal gem Amario Cozier-Dubbery but Brighton have won the race for his signature, according to the Evening Standard.
The outlet reported on its website on Monday (8 July) that Philippe Clement's side and their Old Firm rivals Celtic were keeping tabs on the winger who left the Emirates as a free agent at the end of the season.
Several Premier League clubs were interested in the 19-year-old dubbed "the next Bukayo Saka" [Evening Stanard, 25 April 2023] while Borussia Dortmund and Steven Gerrard's Al-Ettifaq were keen on signing the winger.
But Brighton confirmed on Sunday (7 July) they had secured Cozier-Dubbery's signature on a four-year contract having beaten the Gers and several other clubs to the deal.
Are Rangers close to any new signings in the summer transfer window? It isn't clear whether Rangers ever made a genuine approach to secure Cozier-Dubbery this summer, but it was always going to be hard for them to win the race when they were up against so many Premier League clubs.
The Gunners were reluctant to even allow the young winger to depart themselves and you have to imagine he would have been keener on remaining on Arsenal's books than making the move up to Glasgow.
This is the sort of signing that fits into Nils Koppen and Clement's recruitment model however as they have been keen to pick up young talents in the past. Only a matter of weeks ago they beat several clubs to Clinton Nsiala's signature.
Philippe Clement is eager to add to his Rangers squad in the summer transfer window Perhaps this sort of transfer is going to become more commonplace on the blue half of Ibrox in the future as the Light Blues look to poach young players for minimal fees as they leave academies of some of Europe's biggest clubs.

While these sorts of additions will always be exciting, Rangers and Clement have to ensure that they add a bit of experience and know-how to their ranks before the Premiership season starts up again in just a few weeks.
