Arsenal get tough on ticket touting by banning 20,000 members amid crackdown
Source:Football.London -

Arsenal cancelled 24 season tickets last season in a bid to crack down on supporters who do not attend most matches. The Gunners want to ensure the Emirates Stadium is full every week.

Following an increased demand for tickets, the club brought in a policy at the start of the 2023/24 season that meant fans had to use their season ticket for 17 out of 22 matches. If they were not able to attend themselves, supporters were advised to make their season ticket available on their Ticket Exchange or Ticket transfer platforms to make sure it was used by another fan.

Arsenal have now confirmed that 24 season tickets were scrapped because those supporters did not meet the required usage. Going into the 2024/25 season, fans will be required to use their season ticket for 20 out of 23 games, or else it will be cancelled. Those measures have been enforced by Arsenal as the club tries to fill every single seat inside the Emirates, with demand at one of its highest ever.

The success of Mikel Arteta's team on the pitch has helped increase the number of fans wanting to watch them at home. The Gunners finished second in the Premier League last season and ran Manchester City until the final day of the season, though they eventually fell short by just two points.

As well as the season ticket policy, Arsenal are also clamping down on touting and has banned 20,000 members and 54 season ticket holders for trying to obtain tickets in unauthorised ways last season. Next term, the Gunners will continue to increase their investment in anti-touting measures. This includes developing greater online protection and dedicating more internal sources to take action against the problem.

The club will continue to use the ballot system next season, as they think it is the fairest way to allocate tickets to paying members. After consultation with the Arsenal Advisory Board, members who applied to 20 or more ballots and were not successful once will be invited to buy a ticket from select matches before Christmas. That process includes around 300 members and ensures that those who have missed out in the past can get the opportunity to attend a match in the future.
