Arsenal pull out of race to sign 'quality' Nottingham Forest star valued at £70m - journalist

One of the hottest topics of speculation at Nottingham Forest this summer centres around defender Murillo.

For some time, it's been believed that Murillo will be sold, with Forest fighting to get over the line in the way of their PSR requirements.

However, they have now been met, with Moussa Niakhate and Orel Mangala both joining Lyon for big transfer fees.

Now, Forest are in a much nicer position over Murillo and they can stand firm on their valuation of the sought-after Brazilian.

Following the end of the latest PSR cycle - and with Murillo reporting back to pre-season training - a journalist has now shared the latest state of play.

Dean Jones has delivered an update this week on his Patreon subscription channel and it makes for good reading.

He said: "Yeah the price tag is too high, but they may as well price him at that if it's Chelsea that are interested!

"Arsenal did have an interest in Murillo last year, maybe even in January, but they have moved on from that so they will not be competing for Murillo anymore.

"But he's a really good player, so that will be interesting."

Forest can kick on if they keep Murillo It would be seriously amazing if Forest could persuade the Brazilian to have one more season at Forest and then sell him next summer.

If the player is worth PS60-PS70 million now, Forest might be able to demand much more next summer if it does come to that.

The Reds will need to tread with caution of course as they won't want the valuation of their player to decrease - but there is no reason why it should.

Murillo was simply breathtaking last season and he was called 'quality' by Jamie Redknapp after a 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace.

At 22, the player still has a lot to learn and perhaps all parties could now benefit from Murillo enjoying another season playing regular football at Forest.
