Ferdi Kadioglu transfer price rockets as Man United set 'meeting' to complete Arsenal 'hijack'
Source:Manchester Evening

Interest in Fenerbahce and Turkey wing-back Ferdi Kadioglu has ramped up since Euro 2024. The 24-year-old was one of the many players to catch the eye of scouts from his displays in Germany.

Kadioglu helped his nation reach the quarter-final of the tournament with two wins in the group stage and a famous victory over Ralf Rangnick's Austria. Their hopes of setting up a semi-final with England were dashed over the weekend in a narrow defeat to the Netherlands.

Despite leaving the tournament, Kadioglu has come out of it better off. Clubs were showing interest in his signature prior to June, but Fenerbahce are now facing a serious challenge in keeping him.

Newcastle, Arsenal, Brighton and Borussia Dortmund have all been credited with interest in the left-back. However, reports in Turkey have claimed that Manchester United are 'seriously interested' in the Turkey international and are prepared to push for his signature.

Journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu has claimed that the Reds are yet to contact Fenerbahce over a possible deal but have set a meeting with Kadioglu's representatives in the coming days.

It has been reported that Fenerbahce want between EUR30m (PS25.3m) for the defender, a deal that would make him their record sale. That figure currently sits at EUR21m (PS17.7m) that Lazio paid for Vedat Muriqi in 2020.

Yet for just PS25m, United would be welcoming a talented full-back to Erik ten Hag's side. As well as being attack-minded, practically playing as a left midfielder at times for club and country, Kadioglu is actually right-footed, meaning he is well-equipped to cut inside and be a threat that way.

Amazon For Fenerbahce, they will receive a significant profit on the EUR1.4m (PS1.1m) fee they paid NEC Nijmegen in 2018. Since moving to Turkey, Kadioglu's market value has just sky-rocketed.

At the end of the 2020/21 season, his estimated value was EUR4.2m (PS3.5m), according to Transfermarkt. 12 months later, after 38 games across league, cup, and European competitions, that figure had more than doubled to EUR10.5m (PS8.8m). At the start of last season, he was valued at EUR17m (PS14.4m), before a further EUR4m (PS3.3m) was added in the last six months.

His current value is EUR21m (PS17.7m), which is below Fenerbahce's reported asking price. It's by no means a blockbuster transfer, but the opportunity to strengthen United's options at left-back with a clever piece of business should not go amiss.

Over the years, United have spent beyond their means on reinforcements in the backline. Harry Maguire's 2019 PS80m move from Leicester City remains the most-expensive defensive signing, with Lisandro Martinez costing PS56.7m and Aaron Wan-Bissaka signing from Crystal Palace for PS50m.

Current first-choice right-back Diogo Dalot cost just PS19m as a 19-year-old and is now a valuable member of Ten Hag's team. United will be hoping to secure Kadioglu's services for slightly more than that and hope his performance levels can make him as valuable as the Portuguese.
