Arsenal and Liverpool are two of England's best football clubs, both at present and historically.
The Gunners have won the English top flight 13 times and the FA Cup a record 14 times.
Meanwhile, the Reds have 19 league titles, six European Cups, eight FA Cups and a record 10 League Cups to their name.
With so many great footballers having turned out for the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool over the years, it's not uncommon to see debates over which players are better than others.
For instance, Sky Sports shared a video several months ago entitled "How many Arsenal players would get in Liverpool's XI?".
These debates comes in multiple shapes and sizes. An increasingly popular format doing the rounds these days is Winner Stays On, which does what it says on the tin.
Arsenal icon Per Mertesacker is the latest to take part in Winner Stays On, on the subject of legendary Premier League defenders.
The Arsenal academy manager has has gone on to pick a current Gunners player ahead of two Liverpool icons, one of which is still playing.
Mertesacker then picks William Saliba ahead of Stam, Ruben Dias, Kolo Toure, himself, Virgil van Dijk and Jamie Carragher.
However, Saliba then lost out to Tony Adams, who was declared the winner after Mertesacker picked him over John Terry, Vincent Kompany and Nemanja Vidic.
Each to their own The thing about debates on who's the better player - particularly when it relates to players who have turned out in different eras - is that they can rage on forever and can involve many different metrics, but it's nigh-on impossible to come up with a universal consensus.
For instance, Saliba might be a top player, but it can be argued that, because the PS27million man's trophy haul is smaller than that of Van Dijk, he can't be deemed to be better than the Dutchman.
In addition, Mertesacker is Arsenal through and through, so he may well have a Gunners bias in his picks. Nevertheless, these are his selections, so each to their own.
