Arsenal have reportedly received a reply from Wolves on Dan Bentley after the Gunners sent an opening bid to sign the English goalkeeper.
The Gunners have emerged as surprise suitors for the 30-year-old shot-stopper, with Mikel Arteta keen on signing the former Bristol City and Brentford star this summer, with Bentley viewed as a potential backup option for David Raya and Aaron Ramsdale.
Having made just five Premier League appearances in his entire career, Bentley could be viewed by Arsenal as a third-choice keeper, with rumours suggesting that Hale End graduate Karl Hein could leave north London on loan.
And Arsenal have now heard back from Wolves after making an opening bid to sign Bentley.
Previous reports have suggested that Wolves want as little as PS1m for Bentley, a figure that Arsenal can easily match given how much the north London side are believed to have in the transfer budget this summer.
However, news of an opening bid being rejected could indicate that the Gunners are trying to lowball Wolves as much as possible for Bentley, who realistically could join this summer and not play at all next season.
Indeed, the 30-year-old goalkeeper would tick a lot of boxes for Arsenal in regards to signing a third-choice goalkeeper, and the Gunners could be wise to meet Wolves' demands given how low they actually are.
Yet in the chase for Bentley, Arsenal might need to bite their cheek and accept Wolves' demands for the 30-year-old goalkeeper, who could be keen on a return to north London having left Hale End as a teenager.
PS1m is but a drop in the ocean for Arsenal, and the Gunners could save a lot of time by accepting Wolves' demands for Bentley rather than looking to penny-pinch for a third-choice goalkeeper.
