Arsenal take concrete steps to exploit £50m Emirates opportunity
Source:Football News,

Arsenal are taking bold action to exploit a commercial market estimated to be worth PS50m per season.

The Gunners' revenue was the sixth-highest in the Premier League in 2022-23, the last season for which financial data is available

They generated PS467m in total, with broadcast and sponsorship/merchandise sales accounting for more than three quarters of that figure.

However, the money they generated through the turnstiles at the Emirates was still behind only Man United and Tottenham in the Premier League.

And the latest news from behind the scenes in N5 indicates that the club is looking to push the envelope even further in this department.

Arsenal announce mass ban of ticket touts As relayed by the London Standard, Arsenal have moved to ban 20,000 members and 54 season ticket holders in an effort to deter ticket touts.

Per BBC Sport last year, industry experts Iridium Consultancy estimate that ticket touting is worth more than PS50m per year across the division.

Given their London geography and status as a tourist attraction, Arsenal are among the clubs who have been targeted the most by touts.

The move has been broadly welcomed by supporters who have become frustrated at those trying to extract maximum cash for tickets purchased at face value.

In the long run, with clubs in the Premier League universally raising ticket prices faster than the rate of inflation, this will also likely allow Arsenal to charge a slightly higher rate.

Arsenal revenue to exceeded PS500m When the time comes for Arsenal to release their accounts for 2023-24, they will announce that overall revenue has exceeded PS500m for the first time.

New commercial deals with Sobha Realty and the activation of a renewal with primary sponsor Emirates will boost their coffers, as will their return to the Champions League.

Owner Stan Kroenke, who in recent years has passed on his day-to-day duties to son Josh, has historically favoured a sustainable approach to running the club.

He has departed from that philosophy in slightly in recent years in sanctioning net recruitment spend of almost PS300m since 2022-23, but PSR rules mean the club must raise turnover before spending big again.
