£30million midfield star says move to Arsenal ‘changed his life’
Source:Home -

Mikel Merino joined Arsenal from Real Sociedad this summer for a reported PS30million fee with add ons.

The midfielder won the most duels among Europe's top five leagues last season, and was a part of Spain's EURO 2024 winning side.

Merino returned to action after suffering a freak injury in training, colliding with Gabriel. He revealed that the training methods the Gunners used to get him back to fitness are like nothing he had ever seen in his career.

Mikel Merino speaks on life changing move to England This is not the first time Merino has been in England, he joined Newcastle United back in 2017 but only lasted a year before joining Real Sociedad.

Speaking to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, the midfielder says joining Arsenal has 'changed his life':

"This summer has been one of the best of my life. My life has changed with the Euros and my signing for Arsenal.

"Arsenal was a project that really caught my attention, very ambitious. It's a time in my career when I'm looking to grow and win titles. As for Real Sociedad, they haven't had the best start to the season, with important people leaving, but the way they work is impeccable and I'm convinced that the results will eventually come."

Merino also explained the difference between Premier League and La Liga football in Spain.

"It's always there and everyone likes to talk about it. I have not been in the Premier League for a short time, but it is true that it is a very physical league, with a lot of contact and a lot of back and forth while LaLiga is something more positional in which the group is taken into account than the individual. In any case, they are two leagues in which a great show is offered"

Arsenal midfielder feeling great after summer move Merino says he feels great after recovering from his injury. The midfielder featured in last weekend's game against Southampton, coming on as a substitute.

"I feel very well, strong, and having forgotten the shoulder fracture injury that I suffered. Very happy to start this new adventure with my colleagues; with a lot of desire"

The Spanish international also had a few words to say about Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta.

"He is a coach who has a lot of passion for what he does. He loves the tactics of the game and also the emotional, the management of the group. I also feel passionate about mine and when you see others like you you get infected"
