Gabriel Magalhaes shows true Arsenal colours with William Saliba message after red card decision
Source:Football.London -

Gabriel Magalhaes took to social media to show his support to William Saliba after the centre-back was sent off during Arsenal's defeat to Bournemouth.

Mikel Arteta's side fell to a 2-0 loss at the Vitality Stadium, with Saliba receiving a straight red card for denying attacker Evanilson a goal-scoring opportunity after a poor pass from Leandro Trossard. Referee Rob Jones had initially shown Saliba a yellow card before checking the on-field VAR monitor and later changed his decision.

Second-half goals from Ryan Christie and Justin Kluivert inflicted Arsenal their first Premier League defeat this season. The result leaves the north Londoners in third place in the table, missing a chance to leapfrog leaders Liverpool, who face Chelsea at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

Saliba became the third player to get sent off in eight games and Arteta admitted it was 'almost unpredictable' when questioned about his team's discipline. "There are things that we have discussed in relation to certain topics," Arteta said.

"What happened today is almost unpredictable - that the winger is going to play the ball to the centre back one touch, and it's going to be a challenge there with 40 or 35 meters to go. Very difficult to plan it. But certainly we need to play with 11vs11 if we want to be in the position that we want to be.

When quizzed about whether he was surprised at the red card decision, Arteta added: "I don't know, it's a split-second decision you have to make. The striker is on his back and he doesn't expect the ball to suddenly be coming his way. He just made a decision, that's it. The referee decided to give a yellow and then a red card."

Taking to his Instagram stories after the game, Gabriel posted a picture of himself standing next to Saliba during the game and simply captioned it with a love heart.

Declan Rice meanwhile, was not afraid to call out his teammates after yet another set of match-changing errors. "We've kicked ourselves in the foot three times in eight games and we got away with it at home to Brighton and away at Manchester City," he told Sky Sports.

"I'm proud of the players for fighting, even with 10 men, but the naivety, we need to stop making mistakes because you want 11 players for 90 minutes and that's what wins you football matches."
