AFC Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola praised his side as they put two goals past a fighting 10-man Arsenal at home at The Vitality Stadium.

The match was a tantalising back-and-forth, with Bournemouth dominating much of the game yet initially unable to break down the Arsenal defence.

The Cherries took the lead in the 70th minute when substitute Ryan Christie picked up the ball from a Justin Kluivert corner and shot it into the top left corner.

But it was David Raya for Arsenal who solidified his side's loss at The Vitality by giving away a crucial penalty in the 79th minute.

The Gunners entered the international break off the back of a win against Southampton, but their Premier League winning streak came to an end on this occasion

The Cherries had a mixed start to the season, with three losses and one win before Saturday night, but beating last season's title contenders puts the team in good stead to face Aston Villa away next week.

Cherries boss Andoni Iraola showed appreciation for his team's performance, with it being the first time his side has beaten Arsenal in a league game.

In the post-match press conference, Iraola said: "I think we played a really solid game. It was a tricky situation even against ten players.

"They are playing very well, they really are a difficult team to beat but today we had our day," Iraola added.

Upon a VAR check for the denial of a goalscoring opportunity, however, the defender received a red and was sent off the pitch.

On the matter and if it benefitted his side, Iraola said: "Obviously, once they received their red card, the game became a little bit easier.

"But even before [the red card] I think we were doing a good game, and I think it's a very valuable three points for us."

Iraola added: "I think it was a red card, I think it's quite clear the last man is him against the keeper.

"I did not complain too much because I was expecting the decision."

However, it took 70 minutes for Bournemouth to get past the visitors' defence.

Iraola mentioned this, saying his side "had lost a couple of very clear chances at the end of the first half and beginning of the second"

On Evanilson getting the first red card, and the later penalty, Iraola added: "He's doing very good things, this is what we ask him to do - to be a threat, target spaces very well, and be a problem for opposite centre-backs.

"They [Arsenal] were much better than us last season, they beat us twice, and today has been our turn.

"I think there are things they could have done a little bit [differently], but it is very difficult when you play with one man less for 50-something minutes - they have shown before that they can do it.

"Even against ten it is very difficult to beat them... but I think the first goal was key because of the 11 against ten, but it's difficult to create chances against them."

"We've been really consistent this season," said Iraola.

"I think we are doing really good things and having more chances than the opposition, but we are probably lacking the ruthlessness of taking away chances and making the difference when we are closer to scoring."

Iraola also referenced his side's previous draws against teams such as Chelsea and Newcastle.

The Spaniard said: "At the end, it's not bad luck, it's a matter of being more solid and strong as a team, and it's what the big teams do. When they are a little bit better than you, normally they punish you.

"We should take every game as a chance to win three points like we did today."
