In a recent edition of The Daily Briefing, journalist Fabrizio Romano offered an update on the future of West Ham United midfielder Lucas Paqueta. Romano said,

"I've no information on the betting issue honestly, it's not my job. but Man City have always appreciated Paqueta.

"The deal in August was very advanced, then it collapsed, but technically Man City still appreciate and rate Paqueta as a great player.

"At the moment there are no active talks ongoing, City are happy with the squad they have and I'm not sure they will spend big money in January."

Paqueta's Excellent Form At The London Stadium The 26-year-old is enjoying a fine campaign at the East London club after producing a series of impressive displays for them in the final third. Paqueta has done well to score five goals and secure one assist in 16 matches for West Ham this season across multiple competitions.

The Brazilian sensation has given a good account of himself in the opposition half as he is averaging 2.6 tackles, 0.9 interceptions, 1.0 clearances, 1.2 shots, 1.2 key passes and 1.6 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He has even been tidy when distributing possession based on his pass success rate of 76.4% in the English first division (stats via whoscored).

Paqueta has been one of David Moyes' best performers at the East London club this season. Hence, West Ham simply cannot afford to let Paqueta leave during this winter transfer window.

The Hammers would be better off keeping hold of him for the duration of his contract as he could help them compete for European football once again in the coming seasons. With all things considered, Moyes should focus on retain Paqueta's services for the long run.
