'I would': Diego Simeone admits he'd love to see Liverpool man join Atletico Madrid one day

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has claimed that he'd love to see Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp succeed him.

Simeone is one of the longest serving managers around right now. Having just signed yet another new deal at Atletico, the Argentine's stint in Madrid now stretches to 12 years.

But, inevitably, he will one day leave the Wanda Metropolitano. When that day comes, Simeone was asked by Cadena SER via TeamTALK who he'd like to see replace him. His answer may not please Liverpool fans.

"One of the best Klopp, [Carlo] Ancelotti, Pochettino... They are the coaches that I would like to be at Atletico," said the 53-year-old.

Although Simeone's new deal is until 2027 - a year longer than Klopp at Liverpool - we're still hopeful Jurgen will be a Red further into the future. Keep your mitts off, Cholo!

Simeone backs Klopp for Atletico In fairness, it isn't that difficult to see why Klopp would be attracted by Atletico when he finally hands over the reigns at Anfield.

Although the German has often said that he'd be looking to take a little sabbatical after leaving Liverpool - or head back to his homeland - he's also spoken about managing in Spain.

If that were to happen, Atletico wouldn't be the only club trying to get him, of course.

You could imagine that although they've had the beating of he and his team many times, Real Madrid would also love to have Jurgen at the helm.

The Liverpool boss isn't necessarily Barcelona's style, but the Catalans would surely want to be in the mix, too.

It's true that Atletico's recent riches no longer make them quite as plucky as they once were. But compared to their neighbours in the Spanish capital they are still relative minnows.

As a result, perhaps Klopp would be enticed by the challenge of trying to knock Real off their perch.

He's never quite managed that at Liverpool so far, so maybe he'll see it as a case of unfinished business. Until then, Jurgen has still got years ahead of him on Merseyside, though. Besides, El Cholo is, once again, going nowhere.
