We're delighted to welcome former Aston Villa full-back Alan Hutton as our exclusive columnist. Each week he'll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Villa Park...

It's a "huge blow" for Jacob Ramsey to be ruled out again for Aston Villa after the attacker suffered a reoccurrence of a foot injury, according to Alan Hutton.

The Athletic reported on 6 October that Ramsey, 22, has injured a metatarsal again after spending 10 weeks out when he broke his left foot with England's Under-21s in July.

It is understood that he aggravated that injury in the 6-1 win over Brighton on 30 September and a timeframe for his absence is yet to be confirmed.

Injury expert Dr Rajbal Brar has, however, told Villa News that it's likely Ramsey will return to training in around five weeks.

Hutton admits it's yet another blow for the young attacker, who missed pre-season with Aston Villa and had to train alone to get up to speed with the rest of the squad.

Speaking to Villa News about the latest setback, Hutton said: "Ramsey played a lot of football last season and then he was away with England Under-21s in the off-season when you really just need to rest and recover.

"Unfortunately, nowadays, you're not able to do that and you pick up an injury. And I get it, he's missed pre-season so he's probably had to do a mini pre-season on his own with the fitness staff.

"He did well to come back but he's now got another injury and you have got to feel for him.

"He's a top talent and he's at an age where he has years and years in front of him.

"I know you're desperate to get back on the grass and play but you need to get this right now so it doesn't affect you later in life.

"If he gets it right this time, he'll be fine. But of course, it's a huge blow."

Ramsey scored in that win over Brighton after being substituted into the game in the 57th minute.

In other Aston Villa news, Louie Barry could be fighting for his future at Villa Park as his latest deal may be terminated early.
