In 2021, Aston Villa faced a challenging situation when they had to field a team of young players against Premier League champions Liverpool. This decision was made due to an outbreak of COVID19 within the squad, which resulted in the first team missing an FA Cup clash.

The match saw some memorable moments despite the lack of wellknown names on the pitch. The young Lions took an early lead through Louie Barry but ultimately fell short as Liverpool scored four goals.

Arjan Raikhy & Lamare Bogarde were also part of central midfielders; Arjan Raikhy has since joined Leicester City while Bogarde returned to play for Bristol Rovers.
