All the latest Premier League transfer news, including Newcastle, Man Utd, and Aston Villa.

We begin Thursday's Premier League transfer rumour roundup with news of Newcastle United and their apparent interest in Juventus centre-back Federico Gatti. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Magpies are eager to lure the 26-year-old to the Premier League, and are considering a summer swoop for his signature.

The Italian defender featured regularly in Turin last season, and is considered an important player by Juve. Nevertheless, Newcastle could test their resolve with a bid of around PS25.3 million, and the suggestion is that a formal offer could be tabled soon.

The 3AM Verdict: Newcastle have already signed Lloyd Kelly this summer, but it would appear that they are not done with the defensive recruits just yet. Signing Gatti would be a huge coup, and their cause could be helped if Juve can wrap up a deal for Riccardo Calafiori, as they are increasingly expected to do.

Branthwaite wants United moveElsewhere, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite is very much open to the prospect of joining Manchester United this summer. The centre-back has been linked with the Red Devils for some time now, and it is understood that the player himself would happily make a switch to Old Trafford.

Speaking on his Transfer Live Show, Romano said: 'This upcoming week, Manchester United internally will discuss again about what they want to do with Jarrad Branthwaite. The player keeps waiting for Manchester United. He keeps believing that Manchester United is a fantastic option for his future, so he wants to go to Manchester United. But it also depends on Everton, and we have to see if Everton will change the conditions of the deal, because for PS70 million, United are not going for Branthwaite. So, it has to be something different in terms of package, and we will see what happens.'

The 3AM Verdict: It's all a matter of price, really, United evidently want Branthwaite, and with good reason, but at PS70 million, it is difficult to see a deal being done. Whether that asking price drops as the summer progresses, only time will tell, but for now, this looks like something of a stalemate.

Villa eye MendezAnd finally, Aston Villa could look to make a move for Real Sociedad midfielder Brais Mendez in the coming weeks, according to AS. The 27-year-old is also said to be a target for the likes of Roma, Juventus, and Napoli but any club looking to sign him will have to meet his PS53 million.

For their part, Sociedad have no interest in entertaining offers beneath that figure, and Mendez himself is understood to be very content in Spain, where he feels like an important part of the dressing room.

The 3AM Verdict: This would be an expensive swoop from Villa, but one that could repay itself and then some. Mendez is a fine talent, and one who would offer plenty of attacking quality in the centre of the park for Unai Emery's side. Whether Villa have the funds or the desire to spend so much on one target, however, remains to be seen.
