Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz has joined Juventus

Alan Hutton has told Monchi that Aston Villa need to sign experienced signings this summer transfer window following Douglas Luiz's exit.

Enzo Barrenechea and Samuel Iling-Junior are set to join the ranks at Villa Park ahead of the start of pre-season as part of the deal which has seen Luiz complete his summer move to Italy as announced by Villa [Fabrizio Romano, 27 June].

Barrenechea spent last season on loan away from the Old Lady with Frosinone where he featured 36 times in Serie A but was unable to help his side avoid relegation as they finished one point adrift of safety.

Although Hutton believes the 23-year-old and lling-Junior have the potential to become exciting players, he has urged the Villans recruitment team to add some experience to their side ahead of a Champions League campaign.

"We have to wait and see how these players develop," Hutton exclusively told Villa News.

"He's very young and was out on loan in Serie A last season. He's a very defensive-minded centre-midfielder who loves a tackle and can get around the pitch.

"Under this manager Unai Emery you would like to think he can get the best out of him and make him even better, so we have to see how this talent develops.

"Iling-Junior is the same. He looks like a very exciting player, but we will have to see how he develops in this team and the Premier League which is arguably one of the toughest in the world so they need time to settle in and develop.

"I understand why they've gone down this route because they're looking to the future as well, but they're in the Champions League next season let's not forget. It's a high standard of football so they need to be ready to go.

"I think they need experienced players as well to match the younger talents. It will be interesting to see who they bring in because I'm still not 100 per cent convinced on this whole package deal."

How much did Aston Villa get for Douglas Luiz's Juventus transfer? On paper, Villa may well have already replaced Luiz with another midfielder, but in practice, it isn't quite that cut and dry as Barrenechea is nowhere near the Brazilian's level at this moment in time.

His loan spell in Italy was impressive last season, however, that doesn't mean that he will immediately be able to step into a Premier League midfield and conduct games in the manner supporters used to see from Luiz.

Hopefully, once the PSR deadline passes and the transfer market gets up and running, Monchi and his recruitment team at Villa Park will move quickly to bolster Emery's squad with some more experienced campaigners.
