Ross Barkley has signed for Aston Villa

Bryan King believes Aston Villa have done well to sign Ross Barkley from Luton Town.

The ex-Villa scout claims the midfielder is a positive signing in the context of today's transfer market.

Aston Villa announced via their official website on Monday (1 July) that they had completed the signing of Barkley from Luton Town.

And King - speaking exclusively to Villa News - thinks he will be a useful player to have around next season.

"I think this is a very good addition to the squad," King said.

"He has got good experience and Villa didn't need to pay a massive fee to sign him. He was born and bred in Everton, made a big-money move to Chelsea and spent some time with Luton Town.

"This is a good move for him. He obviously didn't want to play in the Championship and now he will be playing in the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.

"In today's market, this is not a bad investment at all."

Will Ross Barkley shine under Unai Emery at Aston Villa? Barkley will be keen to make a mark next season.

His career seemed to stall after his failed move to Stamford Bridge. However, after a productive spell with Luton last season, he has been handed a lifeline.

The midfielder will once again be playing for a Champions League club, and he will be keen to make an impression.

While he has likely been signed as a squad player, there has been plenty of change at the club so far this summer.

As a result, there is no reason why the 30-year-old can't lock down a starting spot.

In other Aston Villa news, the club could be in serious financial trouble after a "ridiculous" transfer claim.
