Championship club to scout 42-goal Aston Villa star as Hearts and Rotherham watch on

Former Aston Villa striker Brad Young could be set for a return to English football, according to a report.

Young, who was a part of Villa's academy from 2017 to 2023, is playing in the UEFA Champions League this evening for Welsh champions The New Saints. The Oswestry outfit play Montenegrin champions FK Decic at Park Hall in the first qualifying round as they bid to join Villa in the group stages.

According to Football Insider however, Young won't just have TNS fans watching him, as scouts from Bristol City are said to be in attendance. Young is said to be attracting interest from the Robins, as well as 'several' other clubs.

In February it was reported that Rotherham United, along with Hearts and German side Augsburg had been keeping tabs on Young. The 21-year-old is under contract with TNS until the summer of 2025 and so they would command a transfer fee should any club want to act on their interest.

Young was named the Young Player of the Year in the Welsh top-flight last season following his impressive goal scoring exploits. He netted 22 goals in 25 league games, and also scored seven times across the Welsh Cup, the SPFL Trust Trophy and the Nathaniel MG Cup.

Young made one senior appearance for the Villa first-team, which came when the club were forced in to playing their academy against Liverpool in the FA Cup in the 2020/21 season. He made a 29-minute appearance off the bench as the young Villains lost 4-1 to a Liverpool side that had the likes of Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Jordan Henderson.

He was fairly prolific for the academy team, netting 42 goals in 74 games for the under-18 and under-21s teams. Following his exit from Villa Park last summer, he had a trial with Exeter City, but opted to play for TNS.
