Aston Villa failed to capitalise on an opportunity to climb into the top four following a 4-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

After a slow start, Morgan Rogers tapped home from close range following Lucas Digne's corner delivery for a half-time lead at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (3 November).

However, the tide turned completely in the second half, Brennan Johnson equalising for Spurs from Son Heung-min's cross very quickly into the second half, before Dominic Solanke's double stole the points for Ange Postecoglou's side.

James Maddison's free-kick rounded off a poor display, as the Villans got worse as the encounter went on.

Here, Villa News rates the performances of Unai Emery's side, with statistics provided by Fotmob.

Had little to do in the first half due to the inaccuracy of Spurs' shooting. Did well to deny Solanke straight after conceding, but ultimately let in four - none of them his fault.

Won 100% of his six ground duels, but let the equalising goal's cross come in from Son with his hands behind his back and executed just 40% of his tackles. Withdrawn an hour in due to injury.

Ezri Konsa - 4

Fine in possession and displayed his usual assured passing game at the back with a 95% accuracy. Off the ball, poor in the second half. Had a lapse for the Johnson equaliser, and kept Solanke onside as Spurs took the lead.

Pau Torres - 2

Did not want it as much as Johnson for his goal, but was preoccupied with Solanke at the same time, needed more help. Dragged ahead of Konsa for the first Solanke goal as Kulusevski poked the pass through, and gave it to Richarlison for the striker's second. With Tyrone Mings close to a return, not an ideal time to drop a horror performance.

Lucas Digne - 5

Delivered a superb corner which caused problems for Rogers' opener and created three chances, lost 75% of his duels. Often seems better going forward than defensively.

Pau Torres in horror show for Aston Villa, Rogers and Onana star John McGinn (off for Leon Bailey 80) - 6

Busy, drew fouls, had interesting battles with Bentancur and Sarr which tilted both ways. Could have helped Cash out more in preventing Son's delivery for the leveller.

Amadou Onana - 6

Got up excellently for a header in Villa's first chance which came back off the post, drove forward every chance he got, a real progressive player in Emery's system, but completely faded after the break. The team regressed with him which shows his influence. Did maintain a pass accuracy of 97%.

Busy with 51 touches, industrious and occasionally put in a promising ball, otherwise not too much of an impact. Had mixed fortunes in possession, winning three of his seven duels.

Jacob Ramsey (off for Jaden Philogene 80) - 5

Faded in and out, another agile player always eager to drive forward when on the ball, but quiet in North London. A combined xG and xA of just 0.03.

Morgan Rogers (off for Jhon Duran 69) - 7

Opened the scoring against the run of play, on hand to strike first, and provided a springboard for his team to grow into the half. Aced 67% of his dribbles and 83% of his ground duels, before suffering a freak injury to come off as Sarr fell onto him after taking a shot. Working his way to a potential new contract.

Ollie Watkins - 4

Quiet first half which was rounded off with an opportunity set up by Rogers, which he dragged wide. More involved after the break, dropping deeper and getting involved in the physical battle. Aced a meek 54% of just 13 pass attempts.

Diego Carlos (on for Matty Cash 60) - 3

Came on to replace Cash, and the defence got worse. Not really a direct issue of his, but does not instil too much confidence compared to some of his teammates. Fouled Solanke for Maddison's free-kick strike.

Jhon Duran (on for Morgan Rogers 69) - 4

Failed to make an impact when he came on, touched the ball just eight times. Usually excellent at coming into a game and feeding off whatever he can get, but little service late on.

Boubacar Kamara (on for Youri Tielemans 80) - 5

Won 75% of his duels late on, maintained an 92% pass accuracy. One of three brought on after Spurs went two ahead.

Leon Bailey (on for John McGinn 80) - 5

Had one shot blocked, too late for an influence.

Jaden Philogene (on for Jacob Ramsey 80) - 5

Another ineffective change from Unai Emery, Villa beaten when he came on.
