Aston Villa could make more money than ever in new £6bn Premier League sale

Aston Villa and other clubs could be in for a huge cash injection at the next Premier League television rights sale.

DAZN are expected to enter the UK market for a share of these rights and Amazon may look to expand on the matches they currently have, according to The Telegraph. Sky, who have televised league matches since 1992, are current holders in Britain alongside TNT Sports - formerly known as BT Sport - and Amazon.

The current deal is just shy of PS5billion and it is shared out across clubs. The higher a club finishes in the league, the bigger share of the spoils they will receive.

That figure comes from 200 live televised matches that are largely split between Sky and TNT with Amazon taking some midweek match rounds. The Premier League are upping that amount to 270 and now every match on a Sunday with five packages due to be sold off to bidders.

The Telegraph (via the Liverpool ECHO) adds that DAZN and Amazon would be looking at the cheaper rights packages with Sky still expected to hold the majority of the cards. It will be difficult to imagine four broadcasting partners for the league, though, so the price could well be driven up.

The emergence of a new player will only drive the price of television packages up and experts are confident that the deal will rise to at least PS5.5billion. Some think that such a figure could even reach the PS6billion mark.

Teams like Villa would already be earning more from the Premier League if they finished in a high-placed position. However, a new deal would enhance those expected earnings even more for owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens.
