The Sky Blues Under-21s suffered defeat at the Alan Higgs Centre against Barnsley in the Professional Development League.
Luke Bell made a stunning stop to keep Barnsley out, as a free kick from Fabio Jalo was tipped behind for a corner.
However, from the resulting set-piece, the ball was cleared only as far as Aiden Marsh and he rifled the ball into the top corner from the edge of the area.
City had a chance to get back into the game, but a host of bodies surround the Barnsley goal and Justin Obikwu's strike came back off a defender.
The visitors doubled their lead from the spot just after the half hour mark after Luke Bell brought down his man. Fabio Jalo stepped up and he dispatched the penalty past Bell to make it 2-0.

After the restart, Bell was called into action, coming off his line to produce an excellent stop to deny Hayden Pickard from just inside of the area.
At the other end, a smart turn from Kai Andrews enabled the midfielder to run into space, before looking to pick out Aidan Dausch, but the striker saw his effort saved by the Barnsley shot-stopper.
A corner into the box gave City their next opportunity, but it was Callum Perry who rose highest in the area, but he couldn't direct his header on target.
