Barrow showed sensational character to fight off Graham Alexander's first game as Bradford City boss, as Dom Telford and George Ray scored goals to secure Barrow an extremely hard-fought 2-1 victory.
Barrow made the perfect start to the game after Telford bagged his third goal in the last four league games only 30 seconds into the clash. However, Tyler Smith levelled things midway through the first half and Barrow was made to weather a huge Bradford storm up until the 77th minute when Ray scored his first Bluebirds goal.
After two cup victories in the past seven days, Barrow was keen to translate that winning mentality back over to the league and they did just that straight from kick-off. Barrow burst down the right wing and Kian Spence ended up blasting a low cross into the six-yard box where Telford was on hand to slide the ball home.
The Bantams nearly made an instant reply when a low cross was played across the face of goal to Smith who seemed certain to score, but Paul Farman made a superb diving stop to preserve our lead.
It looked like Niall Canavan had marked his return to Valley Parade with a goal of his own in the 23rd minute but his header narrowly evaded the target following a lofted ball into the mixer by Elliot Newby.
Despite Barrow looking the more likely of the sides to find the back of the net, the home side were level on 33 minutes when Smith tapped the ball home from close range after a low cross from Jamie Walker.
After a scrappy end to the opening period, Barrow again came out of the blocks quickly and created a chance within the opening minute of the half. Newby threaded a ball through to Robbie Gotts, who fired a tame shot into the keeper's arms.
Again, the game turned quite scrappy for much of the second period with Alexander's side dominating the ball, but not creating many chances.
One of their best chances in the second half came in the 70th minute when Alex Gilliead dangerously cut in from the right wing before firing a low shot towards goal, which Farman did well to palm away.
But despite all the possession, it was Barrow who regained the lead in the 77th minute after Jamie Proctor had a shot well saved from close range, but Ray was on hand to tuck the rebound home past a number of bodies in the Bradford box.
It was certainly a tense finish to the game at Valley Parade but once again Pete Wild's men stood firm and secured a fourth win on the bounce pushing them up to sixth place in League Two.
