New Rangers manager Philippe Clement has confirmed he has discussed plans for the January transfer window with the club's board, as Birmingham City are linked with goalkeeper Jack Butland.

Clement was unveiled at Ibrox on Tuesday afternoon, after replacing Michael Beale at the helm of the Scottish giants. Asked at his first press conference if he had already spoken with the Rangers hierarchy about plans for the January transfer window, he said: "It was a part of it, like many parts of it.

"I like to see first what the potential is there already. I don't want 10 new players every year and make lots of changes.

"I want to find the key to get the best out of people. We want to use the next weeks and months to do that in the best way.

"With me every player starts with a blank slate, maybe not with the fans but that's a different conversation. They'll all get the chance."

Rangers chief executive James Bisgrove added: "The first step is for Philippe to assess the current squad. He'll give that to the board and then they will be receptive over any improvements he feels are required.

"The standard is very high and that's why he's here. His voice will be strong and the board will be receptive."

New Blues manager Wayne Rooney is said to want to make Rangers goalkeeper Butland his first signing when the January transfer window opens. Butland moved to Ibrox on a four-year deal in June.
