EFL Championship. Blackburn Rovers 2-0 QPR: Post-Match Blackburn Player Rating...
Source:VAVEL |

It was a relatively quiet opening 45, with neither side creating any real goal scoring chances. Jonathan Varane's red card was the only major talking point of the first-half.

As you would expect, Rovers began the second-half on the front foot with Todd Cantwell's introduction at the break adding an extra attacking outlet to the side.

The hosts had a quadruple chance that eventually trickled wide four minutes into the half, with Cantwell's powerful effort from close range being the best of the bunch.

It was Rovers captain Lewis Travis' deflected strike from distance that gave his side the lead moments later, his second goal in his last two games at Ewood Park.

Cantwell then found Danny Batth with a technically excellent cross following a short corner, all but confirming the victory for John Eustace's side who endured the vast majority of possession for the remainder of the encounter.

Remaining unbeaten in their opening seven fixtures for the first time since winning the Premier League in the 1994/95 campaign, winning their opening four home games for the first time since that season also.

Starting XI Ainsley Pears - 7 The number one had very little to do, with the hoops first effort on target coming right at the end of the 90. An effort from distance that the former Middelsborough shot stopper comfortably claimed.

When called upon, his distribution was exactly what was needed, with no real issues.

Hayden Carter - 8 The Rovers back line have been extremely reliable of late, and today was no different. Deployed at right-back again, Carter was very strong at the back, as well as attacking with ease when possible.

A well rounded performance from the academy graduate who looked very powerful up and down the line.

Danny Batth - 9 The stalwart centre-half has looked very commanding in all of his three league starts for his new side this campaign.

It was another assured display from the 34-year-old who bagged his first goal in blue and white just past the hour mark. Following a short corner that found it's way to Cantwell who picked out Baath at the back stick who bundled home from close range.

Batth picked up the player of the match award, in yet another dependable display.

Dom Hyam - 8 Much like Batth, Hyam was a man mountain at the back.

Despite being under little pressure for the QPR forwards the former Coventry man claimed anything that came his way, proving dominant in the air.

Hyam saw plenty of possession, particularly in the second-half, and picked out some impressive long balls to the flanks when building attacks.

Harry Pickering - 6 Replaced at the break, Pickering had little impact on the result, but he was dependable enough and didn't really put a foot wrong in the 45 minutes he had.

He was rarely beaten down the line, and provided a useful outlet at times when building momentum.

Lewis Travis - 8.5 A very confident and commanding display from the academy graduate who put in a real captain's performance, leading by example before leaving proceedings in the 77 minute in place of John Buckley.

Travis broke the lines with ease, providing a very effective and dependable outlet during the transition from defence to attack.

The skipper opened the scoring with a powerful strike outside the area seven minutes into the second half, on the back of sustained pressure.

Sondre Tronstad - 7.5 Tronstad was his usual tough tacking, defensively sound self who put a stop to several QPR breaks before they developed into promising opportunities.

According to OPTA data, the Norwegian holding midfielder completed the most passes in the game, 76, with the highest passing accuracy from any player who completed more than 45 minutes.

Ryan Hedges - 7 The Welshman was moved to left back in the second half, with the introduction of Cantwell for Pickering at the break. Providing John Eustace's side with more attacking options when evidently applying more pressure against 10 men.

Hedges looked a threat when going forward, with a few wayward passes in the first half letting him down.

Tyrhys Dolan - 8 Dolan's fast feet looked a constant threat throughout the encounter, with his assist for the opener topping off his impressive afternoon.

When Dolan plays you can always expect trickery and a flashy performance. But today, more often than not his skill set was used at the right times.

Bar a couple of instances where his decision making could have been quicker, it was a fairly flawless display from the former Preston North End academy forward.

Andi Weimann - 7 The second tier journeyman provided his side with a distinctive attacking outlet that proved a very different dynamic to Dolan and Hedges.

Often deployed as a striker throughout his career Weimann's style is a lot more direct than Hedges on the flanks.

He is much more of an inside forward than an out and out winger.

He wasn't handed any real clear cut goal scoring opportunities, but still looked a threat.

Yuki Ohashi - 7 With four Championship goals already this season, it's obvious Ohashi knows where the net is, but his workrate and determination when chasing down the QPR backline was really impressive this afternoon.

The Japanese forward has endured a very successful start to life in England, and although he didn't have as many goal scoring opportunities as he would have liked, he still put in a pretty commendable shift.

Substitutes Todd Cantwell - 9 The introduction of the former Rangers forward completely changed the dynamic of the game. The tempo right from the beginning of the half was much quicker, with Cantwell at the heart of many Rovers moves.

He was asking questions and taking on his man from his first chance to do so.

He's evidently a very technically gifted player, as proven during his previous playing time in England with Norwich. His assists this afternoon was a fine example of that, striking the teasing ball in with such precision, picking out Batth at the back post.

He has had limited minutes so far under Eustace, but his glimpses so far have been promising, especially in his 45 minute cameo today.

Mahktar Gueye - 6 Being introduced with just over 25 minutes to go, with the game already seemingly settled, it was always going to be difficult for Gueye to make a real impact on proceedings.

He got himself about in the time that he had, but bar an ambitious effort from his own half when trying to catch Paul Nardi off guard in the QPR goal, the number nine didn't really have any huge chances to get on the score sheet.

John Buckley, Joe Rankin-Costello and Amario Cozier-Duberry - N/A All three played just over 10 minutes and didn't have enough time to have a real impact on proceedings.
