Football. Leyton Orient 1-2 Bolton Wanderers: A tight affair ends in v...
Source:VAVEL |

Bolton Wanderers took all three points from Leyton Orient in this years curtain raiser as goals from Victor Adeboyejo and Dion Charles were enough to see them over the line.

Wanderers dominated the first quarter of this one, taking the lead via a Dion Charles strike after 10 minutes.

Orient really grew into the game after the 25 minute mark, with Charlie Kelman calmly getting the O's back on level terms.

After the interval, Kelman continued to terrorise the left hand side of Bolton's defence.

But it was Victor Adeboyejo who would find the back of the net and give the travelling side a hard fought three points.

Story of the Match It was the start of a new EFL League One campaign and the hosts were missing key men Theo Archibald and Jordan Graham through injury.

However, there was space in the 11 for Sean Clare and Zach Hemming to make their Orient debuts.

As for the travelling Wanderers team, Scott Arfield was straight in to make his debut alongside Hungarian international Szabolcs Schon.

New men John Mcatee, Klaidi Lolos, Jordi Osei-Tutu and Jay Matete all appeared on an extremely strong Bolton bench.

The last time these two sides met was back in January as Dan Agyei was the only man on the scoresheet as the O's took all three points on an ice cold winter afternoon at Brisbane Road.

Schon was immediately in the action as he played a clever pass into Aaron Collins who played the ball across the box. It was pin ball for a few seconds before the Orient shot stopper collected to settle any nerves.

It was the Hungarian once again who found Collins with a lovely chipped ball forwards. The Welshman chested the ball down for Charles who hit the ball on the volley from 20-yards and finding the back of the net in expert fashion.

The Trotters quickly got ahold of the game after taking an early lead with the hosts resorting to long balls that were on the whole; unsuccessful.

A suffocating high press from Bolton led to Clare playing the ball across his own 18-yard box and picking out Collins who was taken by surprise and was not able to convert the chance.

Out of nothing, Zech Obiero was given the room of Bolton's half as he continued to drive forward and hit a venomous strike that rebounded back off the crossbar.

The volume levels increased within the home stands as Orient started to get a foothold in the game, despite minimal chances materialising.

Finally, Orient had their equaliser as a long ball got Jack Iredale in a tangle. A thankful Kelman galloped through on goal, slotting past Nathan Baxter.

The pendulum was well and truly with Leyton Orient as a flurry of corners had the Wanderers fans holding their breath before the referee called time for the first half.

It was a scrappy start to the second 45 until Kelman got the better of Iredale once again, his effort pulling a fine save out of the Bolton goalkeeper.

Leyton Orient's number 23 was soon booked after attempting to obstruct a Bolton free kick.

Baxter was called into action once again as he tipped a bullet header over the bar from Jordan Brown.

Ian Evatt made his first change of the evening just after the hour mark as he gave McAtee his highly anticipated debut.

Osier-Tutu and Matete were also given doubts 10 minutes later, coming onto the field for Iredale and Josh Sheehan.

Sonny Perkins was the next man to make his debut, followed shortly onto the pitch by Victor Adeboyejo and Lolos.

Adeboyejo's first touch was to put the visitors back ahead as the ball fell kindly for him after Hemming spilled a free kick in the six yard box.

Matete's twinkle toes gave him a chance to guarantee all three points were going home with Bolton, but his left footed strike was way over the top.

Former Trotter Darren Pratley was then introduced by Richie Wellens with just five minutes to go.

With seven minutes of added time, the home side gained a second wind; bombarding the Bolton back- line with long balls.

Eventually a chance finally broke to that man Charlie Kelman once again whose effort looked certain to be hitting the back of the net before Baxter excellently palmed the strike around the post with a full stretched dive.

That ended up being the final chance of the game as the referee pulled the curtain on this very close encounter.

Orient can leave this one with their heads held high, but the quality of Bolton Wanderers shone through in the end.

Player of the Match Despite being on the wrong side of the result, Charlie Kelman was clearly the man who stood out in this one.

The winger scored the only goal of the game for Leyton Orient and was only denied a hat-trick due to Nathan Baxter's heroics.

He was a constant threat down the right hand side and did not give the Bolton defence a second to breathe.
