6 Scotland right back Euro 2024 alternatives as Aaron Hickey and Nathan Patterson face race against time - Football Scotland Steve Clarke will have some decisions to make with injury issues throwing up chaos ahead of the tournament

Harrison Ashby could be a left-field pickHarrison Ashby could be a left-field pickSteve Clarke may well be sweating as he gets ready to pick his Scotland squad for Euro 2024.

The squad is stacked from goalkeeper to striker with talent with numerous options all over the pitch. Full-backs, for whatever reason, have always been some of our top stars in recent years, especially.

Clarke will certainly be thanking his lucky stars that is the case, though, with our top two right-sided defenders facing the prospect of joining Lewis Ferguson on the list of players missing the tournament in Germany this summer. Nathan Patterson suffered an injury for Everton this week and could be out for some time while Brentford's Aaron Hickey will struggle to play the rest of this season for his club which triggered an anxious wait.

Should neither make it, we could be in a spot of bother. But Football Scotland has had a look at six possible alternatives to soften the blow...

Stephen O'DonnellThe full-back has been missing for a few Scotland squads but he was excellent vs England at the last tournament and has proved he can cut it when dropped in at the deep end. Steve Clarke likes the player from his time at Kilmarnock and the manager is loyal to his players.1 of 6Anthony RalstonThe Celtic defender has been more involved in recent squads and has played on a few occasions. Not playing regularly for the Hoops but is certainly a safe pair of hands when called upon.2 of 6Greg TaylorPerhaps an unlikely option but the defender has deputised on the right-hand side previously. He'll also probably be in the squad as is in a left-back position but that could possibly leave another space in a different position for Clarke to pick. Kieran Tierney, who has also played on the right, is another unlikely alternative.3 of 6Top Stories
