Ivan Toney is told by England manager Gareth Southgate that he will be given the chance at Wembley on Friday night to land a spot on the plane to the Euros

Ivan Toney has been promised one last shot at making England's Euros squad - with the Championships just over a week away.

Gareth Southgate must axe seven players from his 33 man training group by Saturday and Brentford striker Toney is running out of time to stake a claim.

Three Lions boss Southgate admitted he had to "prioritise" giving Harry Kane extra minutes as a substitute against Bosnia & Herzegovina on Monday night ahead of giving Toney a run-out.

Kane is set to start and captain England in their Euros send-off against Iceland on Friday night and that leaves Toney sweating on his place.

Toney, 28, served an eight month ban for breaching the Football Association's strict betting rules and was desperate for redemption by making the England squad.

He missed out on the squad for the World Cup in Qatar in 2022 but has not been in good form because, despite scoring his first goal for England in March, he has not scored for Brentford since February.

Watkins has enjoyed the season of his life for Villa after scoring 28 goals in all competitions, even though he drew a blank against Bosnia.

"We planned the substitutions because some had had enough minutes, some we want to go again on Friday so we needed to get them off so they weren't too fatigued for Friday. Various things we wanted to see but also changes that were planned."

Southgate plans to tell players on Friday if they have made the squad but still has fitness doubts over Luke Shaw, Anthony Gordon and Harry Maguire.

That could yet change his thinking and England must submit their final 26 by midnight Friday with the plan to confirm it publicly on Saturday which is just two days before they fly to Germany.

England's first match in Group C is on Sunday June 16 against Serbia before they face Denmark and Slovenia.
