'It is crazy'... Neal Maupay says one Everton player is 'flying' in pre-season training

Neal Maupay has returned from his loan stint at Brentford and has been blown away by one player during Everton's pre-season training.

Neal Maupay will be hoping to bounce back from a disappointing start to his Everton career when the Toffees kick off their 2024-25 campaign.

He arrived on Merseyside in 2022 for a PS15million fee but failed to hit the ground running at Goodison Park with just one goal for the club in 32 appearances.

A loan to former side Brentford last season seemed to reinvigorate the French striker with eight goals for the Bees, and Sean Dyche will be hoping to get the best out of him next season.

Maupay's preparations for the upcoming campaign started this week with players returning to Finch Farm for pre-season training.

The 27-year-old reserved praise for Ashley Young after being impressed by his performance in training.

When asked about Young by Gabby Agbonlahor, Maupay revealed to talkSPORT that the 39-year-old is "flying" in training.

"Young is flying. We actually did some physical tests on Monday and Tuesday and he is always on top," Maupay said.

"It was his birthday on Tuesday, turning 39 - it is crazy. He is still flying, he is amazing. A top pro and a top guy."

Huge season ahead for Everton Everton will hope for a less stressful campaign this time around after surviving two points deductions to fend off relegation.

Dyche's squad were defensively excellent but lacked firepower going forward with Dominic Calvert-Lewin topping their scoring charts with just eight league goals last season.

Maupay is among a host of names who now have to step up. He was brought in to replace Richarlison but, unlike the Brazilian, he has failed to hit it off with the Everton faithful.

However, that will quickly change if he starts to find the net regularly next season.
