Former Celtic midfielder Stuart Armstrong is currently trialling with Brentford as he seeks a new club after his departure from Southampton.

Thomas Frank, the Brentford manager, has expressed optimism about Armstrong's possible future at the club, confirming the news that he is on trial with the Bees.

The 32-year-old Scotland international became a free agent following his decision to reject a contract extension with Southampton, despite playing a key role in securing their promotion back to the Premier League.

Discussing the trial, Frank commented, "Great experience, great player, great career and there is more in him there is no doubt about that. He has been training with us and a bit of helping each other. Him, to get him to a good level, and for us, we have another good player in and that is the plan so far." [The National]

Armstrong had earlier been linked with a move to Italy during the transfer window, following the expiry of his contract. Fulham were also credited with interest.

Now, as he showcases his skills at Brentford, he might secure a contract in the top tier of English football, continuing his career in the Premier League.

Armstrong was a star player in Brendan Rodgers' side during his first tenure, but a return to Celtic doesn't seem to be on the cards.
