Hopeful: Mark Flekken believes he can start performing at top level for Brentford, starting against Liverpool

After being replaced at half-time with a dead leg against West Ham last weekend, the Brentford goalkeeper is fit to start against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

David Raya's shoes have been big ones to fill, and Flekken has had an inconsistent start. His decision-making has been called into question, having been caught in no-man's-land, for example, when Jarrod Bowen scored for West Ham last weekend.

Flekken's save percentage of 65.6 per cent is towards the lower end among top-flight starting goalkeepers this term and the summer signing has conceded three more goals than his xG against suggests he should have.

Speaking this week, he described the Premier League as the "best competition on the planet", but admitted: "It took me some time to get used to it."

Two clean sheets in his last three games suggest he is finally coming to the fore in a Brentford shirt.
