ANFIELD, LIVERPOOL // Liverpool managed to put a frustrating week behind it as it returned to winning ways in a comfortable manner against Brentford. Thomas Frank's side was beaten 3-0.
A Mohamed Salah double either side of half-time and Diogo Jota's superb finish guided the Reds to a 3-0 victory. Despite having to name a very young bench amid a growing injury list, Jurgen Klopp's side had the game wrapped up with more than 15 minutes to play as it returned to some of its best performances this season.
The win sees Liverpool leapfrog Arsenal in the Premier League table and keep pace with leaders Manchester City heading into the international break. And with Pep Guardiola's side up next, the Reds look as though they could be in the hunt for this season's title.
There were a number of noteworthy incidents as Liverpool returned to winning ways at Anfield. Here are the three moments Liverpool.com picked out from the Reds' 3-0 win.
The Good
Darwin Nunez did everything he could to get himself on the scoresheet, but found himself denied by the offside flag on two occasions. The first of those ruled-out goals was by the barest of margins; the second not so much.
You might have been forgiven for thinking it wasn't going to be Liverpool's day at that point. The Uruguayan though found another way to make his impact.
A delightful backheel played the ball into the path of the on-running Mohamed Salah, with the Egyptian making no mistake with the finish. Nunez's assist though was outstanding though, and well worth a look if you haven't seen it already.
Not only that, but it continues a remarkable run between Nunez and Salah, with all nine of the former's assists for Liverpool coming for the latter. The pair are developing quite the partnership.
Wherever you are in the world - in the US, the UK or further afield - you don't want to miss out.
The Bad
Paul Tierney doesn't have too many friends at Anfield. The referee has built a bit of an unwanted reputation with Liverpool, with the ill-feeling from the club's supporters reaching boiling point during the 4-3 win over Tottenham back in April.
This was the first time that Tierney had taken charge of a Liverpool game since that day, but his relationship with the club doesn't really seem to have improved in that time. The Reds fans certainly left him in no doubt as to their thoughts on him.
Having been left frustrated earlier when Tierney stopped Liverpool in its tracks as it looked to break from a quick free-kick, the fans' ire reached its peak when Joel Matip picked up a yellow card for a challenge on Christian Norgaard, despite the Dane appearing to jump into the Cameroonian. Matip certainly wasn't impressed with the decision, and Jurgen Klopp looked just as perplexed on the touchline.
The questionable call sparked an angry response from the Anfield crowd, who told Tierney in no uncertain terms where he should go. It's probably fair to say Tierney won't be looking forward to his next visit to Merseyside.
The Ugly
There's no doubt that Wataru Endo improved on his showing against Toulouse in midweek. The Japan international still supplied a moment to leave Liverpool fans with their hearts in their mouths.
Going into a 50/50 challenge with Norgaard, Endo left his mark on the Brentford captain, leading to a VAR check for a potential red card. Klopp put his head in his hands on the touchline, likely in disbelief at the review, but also perhaps in fear of potentially losing yet another player.
The injuries had been piling up ahead of kick-off at Anfield, with Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate the latest in the treatment room as they joined Curtis Jones and Ryan Gravenberch. Therefore, the last thing Klopp would have wanted was a player getting a three-match suspension.
Thankfully, the right decision - no matter how much Thomas Frank might wag his finger at it - was eventually reached as Endo stayed on the pitch. Despite his improved performance, it was a sign that the 30-year-old still hasn't quite got to grips with the pace of the Premier League, and Alexis Mac Allister doesn't have to worry about losing his position just yet.
