'Standout, special, positive' - Jurgen Klopp hails three Liverpool players after Brentford win

Jurgen Klopp has lauded Darwin Nunez's overall performance in Liverpool's 3-0 victory over Brentford on Sunday. The Uruguayan had two goals disallowed before setting up the opener for Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian would score his brace after the break, before Diogo Jota wrapped up the scoring.

But as the Reds kept only their fifth clean sheet of the season, Klopp was thrilled with Nunez's all-round performance and how he defended from the front in particular.

"It's super difficult (against Brentford). I think the big chance Mbuemo had in the first half, the pass was already exceptional," he told reporters. "It wasn't the centre-backs there because it was after a set-piece, probably, and Trent [Alexander-Arnold] was there one on one.

"But these situations could have happened more because they are that good. But generally the defending was really good.

"Standout in this defending was Darwin because it is all about Brentford wants to play long balls. That's one thing, but we need to know when. And we can only influence that by one player.

"When you start pressing from the centre, you have to go to the goalie without getting the ball. They pass to the centre-back and you follow that. The work-rate was insane."

Nunez wasn't the only player to earn praise from Klopp, with the German also full of praise for Salah, who scored his 200th goal for an English club against the Bees, and Kostas Tsimikas.

The Greek has endured a difficult season to date and looked unconvincing at times since replacing the injured Andy Robertson last month, with it his mistake that gifted Toulouse their opener in midweek. But with the left-back responding with two assists against Brentford, Klopp was pleased with his individual reaction.

"Exceptional, just exceptional player," he said of Salah. "Played a super game and we all know how difficult it is against these tall centre-backs.

"Two players around him, all these kinds of things, how often he kept the ball for us and we could play from there. That was super important and scoring two goals.

"We had so many good moments in the first half. We scored but it was offside, things like that. And then in that moment, the composure for the first goal is insane.

"There is no doubt when the ball is in that area, in the end you see it on the scoresheet. So a pretty special player, yeah.

"Kostas Tsimikas, we could all see the difference before the assist and after the assist. That is football, that is life.

"It's helpful if you get positive feedback and this is obviously positive feedback. Very important and all players performed at a top level today and I'm really happy with that."
