England and Manchester United legend David Beckham has been spotted in Surrey enjoying a game of football. He was in the stands watching his son Romeo play for Brentford B team.
Beckham was seen with flat cap on, engrossed in the match and pictured hugging supporters at Wheatsheaf Park in Staines, as the team took on Leicester City U21's on Friday evening (November 10). Romeo featured for just over an hour, helping his side to a 1-0 victory, making it two wins out of three since the Bees' move to Staines.
The fixture saw 869 spectators attend, leaving Brentford second in their group of the Premier League Cup. Brentford FC secured permission to play at Wheatsheaf Park after an agreement with Staines Town FC who withdrew from competitions in 2022. Brentford B has been playing at the Staines ground since the end of October.
Brentford has made a number of improvements to the site which include a new playing surface, improved supporter facilities and player changing areas. Romeo joined Brentford B on a permanent one year deal from Inter Miami in June this year.
He was previous on loan at the club for the second half of the 2022/23 season and was part of the B team squad that won the Premier League Cup in May. Before signing permanently with the club, he had scored 15 times for the young Bees while on loan.
Brentford fan and community relations director Sally Stephens said: "Here at Brentford we want to become an asset to the local community around Wheatsheaf Park. We're looking forward to working with members from Staines Town FC to help support grassroots football in the area. We're also pleased to be bringing affordable football to the Staines community and hope to see regular crowds come along to watch our B team and under-18 teams play."
The B team's next scheduled fixture in Surrey is a 12.30pm kick off against Burnley U21's on January 20. There is the potential that Brentford Women could feature soon in Staines later in the season.
The Netflix series, Beckham, follows the former midfielder's rise to football stardom through interviews with David, his wife Victoria and other famous faces.
