Derby County get thumbs up over bargain transfer that has 'great pedigree'
Source:Derbyshire Live

Derby County have been linked with a move for former Brighton goalkeeper Mathew Ryan as they continue their hunt for the first signing of the summer.

A goalkeeper is among the top priorites for Derby after releasing last season's number one Joe Wildsmith and third-choice stopper Scott Loach. Ryan is tipped to move back to England from AZ Alkmaar on a free transfer with Dutch outlet AZ Alerts claiming the Rams have the "best credentials" to sign him.

The 32-year-old would certainly be a coup for Derby given Ryan's Premier League experience that saw him make more than 120 appearances across a four-year spell.

He also spent time on loan at Arsenal and is an Australian international. Fans on DerbyshireLive have been discussing Ryan and whether he would be a good fit for Derby and here's what they they had to say.

StephenJohn: "If he's good enough for Paul Warne, he's good enough for me."

Grabbags: "A great pedigree and I was shocked when Brighton allowed him to move, preferring Robert Sanchez, who did go on to become a top keeper and is now at Chelsea. Loaned to Arsenal then moving to Real Sociedad, he has certainly got many good years ahead of him. You don't gain 93 international caps by fluke."

Nedram1: "It sounds like a good move. 32 is not old for a goalkeeper. I think (could be wrong) that Peter Shilton was older than that when he signed for the Rams and he won one third of his England caps while playing for the Rams. Free transfer to boot? Sign him if we can."

Ramsinoz: "I've watched him for years, a good solid keeper, goalkeepers mature later than outfield players so yes, why not?"
