Tottenham forward Mikey Moore (Credit: Imago)HomeExclusives Fri 4 October 2024 18:10, UKBryan King expects Mikey Moore to start on the bench for Tottenham against Brighton at the Amex Stadium on Sunday (6 October).

The ex-Spurs scout thinks the 17-year-old does have "a chance of starting".

However, he believes Ange Postecoglou is likely to call on a more senior player.

It comes as Son Heung-min looks likely to miss the clash with the Seagulls.

While speaking at his pre-match press conference (via Football London, 4 October), Postecoglou said, "Sonny unlikely, he's pushing hard but I just don't think the turnaround will be quick enough for him to be available at this stage.

"Tottenham News has reached out to Spurs for an update on Son but it seems the club are unable to put a timescale on his return at this time.

In light of this news, King - speaking exclusively to Tottenham News - still doesn't think Moore is quite ready for his first Premier League start.

"I think Moore has a chance of starting," King said.

"However, I imagine quite a few players will come back into the team.

I can't see the team that started in the Europa League starting against Brighton.

"Moore will probably be on the bench.

If Son doesn't play, I'd imagine they will start with Dejan Kulusevski, Timo Werner or maybe even Brennan Johnson on the left.

I'd be surprised if Moore starts.

"Postecoglou is bringing him through slowly and he certainly looked comfortable on Thursday.

However, Brighton is quite a step up.

"Ange Postecoglou to be without Son Heung-min for Tottenham v Brighton? Moore is causing quite the buzz in North London.

The 17-year-old was handed his first start for the club as Tottenham beat Ferencvaros 2-1 in the UEFA Europa League at the Groupama Arena on Thursday (3 October).

Therefore, with Son unlikely to play, it is natural for supporters to wonder if Moore will take his place against Brighton.

However, Postecoglou might be wise to hold back on the decision.

Mikey Moore has burst onto the scene at Tottenham While Moore is no doubt an impressive talent, and certainly making quite the impact behind the scenes, the Premier League is a big step.

Postecoglou won't want to rush the young forward's development.

As a result, starting him on the bench at the Amex Stadium would be the safer decision.

This isn't the only injury concern Postecoglou has to contend with heading into the clash, which will no doubt be giving the Australian quite the selection headache.

In other Tottenham news, John Wenham has raved about a "perfect" 16-year-old at the club who has the same potential as Moore.
