Leicester City held on to defeat Bournemouth by a score of 1-0 at the King Power on Saturday afternoon.
Facundo Buonanotte's first-half strike provided the early lead and (spoiler alert) the final margin (wait, that wasn't a spoiler since it's literally in the headline and the previous sentence).
The Foxes defended in numbers and held on due to a combination of several offside calls, two shots off the woodwork, and some really poor shooting by the Cherries.
In all honesty, this match wasn't wildly different than some of the draws and defeats.
The attack relied heavily on individual effort, we defended deep, played a lot of long balls, and relied on some last-ditch defending.
I don't mean to imply that it's a good or a bad thing; just that it's a true thing.
We didn't do a lot differently and we got a result and we really needed to get a result.
Other than Steve Cooper, the happiest man at the King Power had to have been Mads Hermansen.
The keeper was forced to make 13 saves against Arsenal while surrendering 4 goals last week; today he only made 2 and still kept a clean sheet.
It's a funny game.
All-in-all, it wasn't a great performance, but Bournemouth are better than many people think and a home win against them is a nice result.
The three points give the Foxes a total of six from seven matches, which puts us 15th on the table.
With the international break on us yet again, we don't play again until the 19th of October when we travel to the south coast to face Southampton.
The following Friday, it'll be peace, love, and friendship at the King Power when we host Nottingham Forest.
Facundo Buonanotte is good.
The impact he has on the match is massive, not just scoring, but pressing, passing, and setting the tempo.
I think he's a future star and I'm afraid we won't have any hope of making the move permanent.
The team still don't seem like they're all on the same page.
Here's hoping we sort it during this international break like I hoped we would during the last one.
Also, there are too many international breaks.
I'll say it in a whisper: (I'm starting to get concerned about Vardy) Leicester City: Mads Hermansen, James Justin, Wout Faes, Caleb Okoli, Victor Kristiansen, Oliver Skipp, Wilfred Ndidi, Facundo Buonanotte (Bobby De Cordova-Reid 82'), Jordan Ayew (Boubakary Soumare 88'), Stephy Mavididi (Abdul Fatawu 82'), Jamie Vardy (C) (Odsonne Edouard 74')Bournemouth: Kepa Arrizabalaga, Marcos Senesi, Illia Zabarnyi, Milos Kerkez, Adam Smith, Marcus Tavernier, Ryan Christie, Lewis Cook, Evanilson, Justin Kluivert, Antoine SemenyoKey Events and Notes1'- It's a beautiful day on Soarside.
Winks is out of the lineup, Ayew is in.
The Ghanaian takes up station on the right, with Buonanotte in the centre and Ndidi partnering with Skipp in front of the back four.
4'- Close! Bournemouth work a free kick well with Kluivert flicking it to the back post.
Senesi arrives to head just wide.
He was offside, but it's still worrying to see the defence breached this easily.
8'- Close! Buonanotte wins the ball in midfield, fights through a handful of tackles, and lets loose from the edge of the area.
It's on target, but Kepa parries and collects the second ball.
10'- Kristiansen tries to get too cute with the ball and Semenyo susses it out and the Cherries have numbers in the box.
City belatedly get it clear, but it doesn't inspire confidence.
16'- GOAL! Facundo Buonanotte take a bow.
He plays a 1-2 with Justin to take out the fullback, allowing him to cut inside on his stronger left foot.
He's got Ayew, Vardy and Mavididi available, but the Brighton loanee sees an opening and blasts the ball inside the near post.
1-0 to the Foxes.
23'- Penalty shout for the Foxes.
Mavididi flicks the ball toward the mixer and it's blocked by Zabarnyi's outstretched arm.
The commentary team are a bit baffled that the referee isn't called over to take a look, but he isn't and so we play on.
This would be a fine time to apply Hanlon's razor.
34'- Close! Buonanotte tears down the centre and lays it off for Vardy.
The GOAT is one-on-one with Kepa but he seems to be of two minds and neither is thinking about scoring.
His shot dribbles wide when you'd have bet the house on at least forcing a save.
39'- Ayew's first touch is loose and he dives into a tackle to win it back.
He actually takes the ball and makes minimal contact, but he sees yellow anyway.
I suspect it looked worse than it was.
45+1'- The match crawls to the halftime whistle.
It's been pretty even going, but the Foxes have the lead.
Hermansen is probably half asleep now, having had only one save to make.
46'- No changes for the Foxes at the break.
The Cherries bring on Dango Ouattara, a former Leicester target, for Justin Kluivert.
49'- Close! The visitors win a free kick just inside the Leicester half and the delivery is perfect.
It finds Zabarnyi in the centre of the area.
He makes great contact and beats Hermansen, but it kisses off the post and goes out for a goal kick.
52'- Close! The Bournemouth press forces a turnover in the City half.
The ball comes to Christie.
Hermansen just turns it around the post.
Ouatarra gets on the end of the ensuing corner but he puts it wide.
The Foxes look nervous.
65'- Farcical run of play.
Zabarnyi wipes out Buonanotte just outside the Bournemouth area.
The referee decides it's a good tackle in spite of his getting none of the ball.
The Cherries break and Justin is forced to bring down his man and Lewis Cook puts the free kick in the back of the net.
But.
.
.
Evanilson claims the goal and he's offside.
The flag goes up, VAR takes a look, and the call is upheld.
73'- Odsonne Edouard is on for Vardy.
Buonanotte wins a ball high up the pitch and gets a Leicester throw, earning the applause of the entire stadium and Wout Faes in the process.
81'- The Foxes are holding on right now.
Manager Steve Cooper sends Bobby De Cordova-Reid and Abdul Fatawu for Buonanotte and Mavididi.
83'- Skipp gets whistled for.
.
.
winning the ball? I don't think the referee is biased here, I just think he's not having a good match.
88'- Ayew's hauled off for Boubakary Soumare to try to see out the match.
90+6' - The Cherries win a late corner in the 6th minute of 5 minutes of injury time.
The Foxes just about get it away and the whistle goes.
