Crystal Palace recently announced that goalkeeper Sam Johnstone has now extended his contract with the club until 2027.

The 30-year-old is a popular figure at Selhurst Park, and his strong form has seen him included in recent England squads.

Johnstone has kept nine clean sheets in 23 appearances for the club since his arrival from West Brom last summer, but the club still elected to sign Dean Henderson for PS20m this summer.

Johnstone has remained first choice, with Henderson currently injured, but it is unclear what the future holds for both goalkeepers.

Johnstone sends message following contract announcement

Johnstone has now expressed his joy that he has committed his future to the club, and took to Twitter to send a message to the Crystal Palace faithful.

"Delighted to have extended my deal with Palace! Absolutely loving my time here & excited for the future. Let's go, Eagles," he tweeted.

The goalkeeper has appeared in every game across all competitions this season, having come on as a substitute for Henderson when he picked up his injury against Manchester United in the Carabao Cup.

Crystal Palace are joint-second in the Premier League for clean sheets with Johnstone in goal, and he has played a big part in helping Palace keep a strong base at the back.

Having two top-class centre-backs in Joachim Andersen and Marc Guehi in front of him has helped, but Johnstone has shown that he is an excellent goalkeeper and Crystal Palace are now well-set in the position for the next few years.

The likes of Vincente Guaita and Jack Butland have had inconsistent spells at Selhurst Park in recent years, and having a reliable and experienced option like Johnstone tied down for the next few years is a major positive for the club.

Crystal Palace are set to face Burnley this weekend, and Johnstone will hope to make it five clean sheets in 11 League games this season.
