Thiago Silva to be assessed after picking up hamstring injury

Chelsea gave up two more goals last night, adding to our already club-record tally of goals conceded in a Premier League season (59), and closing in on truly historic numbers if we keep this up in the final five games (have conceded 70 or more in the league just once in the last 60 years).

Those are shocking numbers even as goals throughout the league have been significantly up this season: an average of 3.26 goals are being scored per game, the highest figure in the top flight since 1964-65, about a half a goal higher than the general average in the last fifty years.

The constant chop and change throughout the team certainly hasn't helped with any of that either. Not any of our center backs, be they young or old, have made us unassailable at the back, but that's as much a symptom as a reason for us being unable to nail down an actual starting partnership.

And it looks like we'll have more changing for these last few games, with Thiago Silva picking up a hamstring injury late on in yesterday's game. Silva had started four of five (tellingly not the Arsenal the debacle), partnering Trevoh Chalobah in three of those (and Benoit Badiashile last night, with Chalobah deputizing at right back).

"We need to assess him after tomorrow. It is a pain in his groin, which was similar to Palace."

Silva missed three games after Palace and was named only to the bench for five more after that ... so hopefully we haven't actually seen the last of him in a Chelsea shirt just yet.
