Report: Liverpool now 'testing the waters' over £51m signing; acceptance that deal with Chelsea is hard to do
Source:Tbrfootball

It's pretty obvious Liverpool are going to have a busy summer with Jurgen Klopp leaving and Arne Slot coming in to take over.

The Merseyside outfit are set to see a big change in how things are done as Klopp jets off into the sunset and Slot comes in as the man to take the Reds forward.

Off the field, Liverpool and FSG have got their house in order by bringing back Michael Edwards and bringing in Richard Hughes to work with him.

One of the key aspects, of course, will be getting transfers spot on.

Liverpool will need a few new players as Slot imparts his ways onto the team and one position being looked at is in defence.

A number of names have been linked, including Chelsea's Levi Colwill, who has been admired for some time.

However, according to a report from Football Transfers, Liverpool accept that any deal for Colwill is a tough ask and instead, are now looking to central Europe instead.

They do admire Colwill at Chelsea but the report states how a deal to sign the young defender will be hard, given Chelsea's lack of willingness to sell to a rival.

That brings Liverpool into the mix for Sporting Lisbon star Inacio.

The defender has been a star for Ruben Amorim this year and the Reds' interest in him is nothing brand new either. Indeed, it's even been suggested Arne Slot directly wants his new team to sign Inacio.

However, this report claims that Liverpool are now testing the waters with Sporting before committing to paying his full PS51m release clause.

Inacio is capable of playing across the backline if needed and has been lauded by Bruno Fernandes as well for his abilities in defence.

Liverpool, then, could well get ahead of the rest by activating that clause and getting a deal done early.
