For months, the Italian media have suggested Chelsea and Paris SaintGermain are set for a battle for Napoli star Victor Osimhen. On April 25th, Il Mattino reported the west London club are in the lead to sign the striker in the summer window. This is backed up by today's edition of Gazzetta dello Sport, which also states Chelsea and PSG have been working on this operation for some time.

The Nigeria international has a clause between EUR120m and EUR130m, but interested parties are working on different strategies to acquire his signature. It's explained that Chelsea could be Osimhen's 'favourite destination' as he dreams of moving to the Premier League and admires Blues legend Didier Drogba.

Mauricio Pochettino's side won't play in the Champions League next season giving PSG an advantage over acquiring him. However, Chelsea want to entice both player and Napoli with an offer worth EUR10m net per year along with offering EUR80m plus Romelu Lukaku [currently on loan at AS Roma] as part of their deal.

This proposal can allow Napoli to replace Osimhen but it remains unclear if they favor this formula or not. The negotiations suggest that Chelsea is determined to secure their target through creative means rather than simply meeting his release clause outright.
