Learn more The Ipswich boss is also said to be a target for Brighton, who announced on Saturday that Roberto De Zerbi will be leaving the club at the end of the campaign.

It seems that Chelsea could be the next club to join the race for McKenna's signature if they decide to part ways with Mauricio Pochettino in the summer.

According to The Guardian, the Blues have opened talks with McKenna's representatives as they continue to mull over Pochettino's future at Stamford Bridge.

While some key figures at Chelsea reportedly want to keep their current boss, others are thought to be unconvinced that he is the right man to lead them into next season.

Chelsea are said to be 'intrigued' by McKenna's work after leading Ipswich to successive promotions from England's third tier to the Premier League.

Ipswich appear to be facing a battle to keep their manager ahead of the new campaign, though it is said that he could still decide to stay at Portman Road.

McKenna was said to have rebuffed an approach from Crystal Palace earlier this year before the Eagles appointed Oliver Glasner as their head coach.

It remains to be seen if he will continue to be loyal to Ipswich or if a move to an established Premier League club will prove too tempting to turn down.

The report adds that Brighton are the early frontrunners, with a move to the Amex Stadium making more sense than stepping into the pressurised environments at United or Chelsea.

However, the lure of a return to Old Trafford could be difficult for McKenna to ignore, with the Northern Irishman having been a first-team coach for the Red Devils before joining Ipswich.

Ipswich chief executive Mark Ashton refused to rule out losing McKenna when quizzed on the interest in his services by Sky News on Friday.

He said: "Those are challenges that success will always bring.

I'd certainly rather have the challenges of success than the challenges of failure, but Kieran's been great.

"He signed a new long-term contract last summer and he's been in the office, he hasn't had a day off, he's been working by my side tirelessly on recruitment and planning and analysis and tactics for next season.
