Report: Chelsea now in talks with Pochettino over delaying transfer plans, it could all depend on £52m player

Chelsea are discussing whether they should sign a new striker in January or wait until next summer with manager Mauricio Pochettino.

According to TEAMtalk, Chelsea want to know if Mauricio Pochettino thinks Christopher Nkunku can help him get to the end of the season or if he needs a centre-forward in January.

The Frenchman is yet to play a game for the Blues following his PS52m arrival from RB Leipzig (BBC Sport) because of injury but could give them a huge boost up front when he returns.

Last term, the 25-year-old scored 23 goals in 36 appearances for Leipzig.

Could Christopher Nkunku delay Chelsea's transfer plans? It is not impossible. If Nkunku returns in December and goes on an amazing scoring run, perhaps Chelsea may feel that they do not need to go out and splash PS140m on Napoli's Victor Osimhen, for example.

Nkunku's natural position is just off another striker, though. Pochettino may want him playing in that role in the long run, so the Blues could still end up needing to buy another centre-forward even if the France international proves to be prolific at Stamford Bridge.

He was the striker that the club bought in the summer and seem to believe in. The 22-year-old has only missed one of the team's games so far this season because of suspension.

If he starts scoring and Armando Broja can stay fit and continue to chip in, then Chelsea may decide not to sign a new centre-forward.
