Borussia Dortmund are readying a bid for Dutch defender Ian Maatsen, who is on loan from Chelsea.
Sky reporter Patrick Berger reports that Dortmund have made the Netherlands international a priority target after an impressive loan spell at Signal Iduna Park.
Maatsen has been in sensational form since joining Edin Terzic's side, notching three goals and two assists in 22 appearances in all competitions.
The 22-year-old was crucial to Dortmund's run to the Champions League final, scoring in the 4-2 quarter-final victory over Atletico Madrid.
He also managed three clean sheets in six Champions League games, averaging 5.7 ball recoveries, 3.3 clearances, 1.7 tackles, and 1.7 interceptions per match in the tournament.
Maatsen was also instrumental to Dortmund's fifth-place finish in the Bundesliga.
In addition to his four-goal contributions, the ex-Burnley loanee created three big chances and kept six clean sheets in 16 Bundesliga outings.
He also averaged 1.9 tackles, 4.9 ball recoveries, and 1.1 clearances per match, while winning half of his attempted ground duels.
Maatsen has been a man reborn since joining Dortmund, although it's unsurprising, considering young players tend to thrive at Signal Iduna Park.
However, despite his resurgence, it appears Chelsea still want to profit from his departure this summer, and Dortmund are keen to get a deal over the line.
Maatsen is also eager to make his move to Dortmund permanent, which plays into the hands of the Bundesliga giants as they try to negotiate a lower price for the Dutchman.
Chelsea inserted a EUR35 million release clause in Maatsen's contract before shipping him off to Dortmund, but the Germans are hoping to strike a deal for a lesser price.
It's unclear whether Chelsea will be open to the idea, but the Blues will not stand in the way of Maatsen's potential exit this summer.
They're also looking to move on a couple of other homegrown stars this summer, including Trevoh Chalobah, Conor Gallagher, and Armando Broja.
